CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – At their meeting, Monday, February 9, the Montgomery County Commission voted in favor of a change to the Bi-County Landfill user fee to a rate of $5.00 per month for all residential household users in Montgomery and Stewart Counties. The Bi-County Solid Waste Management Board had made the recommendation to Commissioners.
Bi-County users with licensed commercial solid waste haulers have only been paying $3.00 each month but with the new change will now pay $5.00. The board also recommended that citizens on the tax relief program will no longer pay a user fee.
Since the fee began in 1997 it had appeared on electric bills from the Clarksville Department of Electricity and Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation. Both utilities made the decision to stop putting the fee on their bills.
The Director of Bi-County Solid Waste Management, Pete Reed, says one reason for the new rate is their costs are increasing and added Bi-County will begin handling the billing of the new $5.00 fee out of their office starting July 1 of this year.
