CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Convergys announced to employees this week that a client program at the Clarksville call center will end on July 14, 2017 due to low call volumes.
Up to 160 employees may be affected by the cancellation of the contract.
“Our first priority has been to share this news with our team, and the options that are available to them. We are actively working to bring new business to the site and have a long-standing and positive relationship with the Clarksville community,” Ed Loyd, Corporate Communications Director for Convergys said in a release. “We hope bringing a new program to the site will enable us to retain as many of our team as possible before the end of the 60 day notice period.”
The facility itself will not close and Convergys has no plans to leave the city of Clarksville.
According to Cal Wray, Executive Director of the Economic Development Council, the call center currently employs approximately 800 people. He said the company is trying to obtain additional contracts to hopefully save as many of those jobs as possible over the next 60 days.
“It’s very unfortunate. We hope they’re successful in recruiting another contract to save those jobs because they’ve been a great partner in the community for us,” he said.
Convergys has several contracts that change seasonally and typically employs anywhere from 600 to 1,000 employees.
