Update, 9 p.m.: Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, says she is voting in favor of certifying the election results, which state that Joe Biden won the election.

Update, 6:30 p.m.: Rep. Mark Green made additional comments on Twitter Wednesday night:

“What happened today is an national disgrace. Today’s riots are not only wrong but actually backfired—stopping the nation from seeing the evidence presented and debated. Unacceptable.”

Update, 3:35 p.m.: In an interview on Fox Business, Rep. Mark Green, R-Clarksville, urged the Trump supporters to leave the Capitol building and end the violence.

“I am one of the guys who objected to some of these states’ Electoral College processes,” Green said, “and we can’t have this debate while this goes on.”

He said he and his staff had to seek safety as “100 or so” of the supporters filled the hallways of the Capitol and surrounded the offices.

“I’m concerned for our country, and of course concerned for the appearance of what this looks like on the world stage,” Green said.

When asked if he’d ever seen anything like this during his years of service in the Army, Green replied, “Not in America. I’ve seen it in foreign countries; I’ve seen it in Iraq, but nothing like this in America.”

Update, 2:55 p.m.: Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee issued this statement: “The violence happening in our nation’s capitol is inexcusable and an affront to our founding principles and freedoms. I stand with our Tennessee delegation that order must be restored immediately and thank law enforcement for their professionalism.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Following the storming of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., by supporters of President Donald Trump, all three Republican members of the Clarksville and Tennessee Washington delegation have denounced the violent actions.

Congressman Mark Green, R-Clarksville, said, “We are a country of law and order—this violence is UNACCEPTABLE. Pray for our nation’s Capitol Police and law enforcement officers.”

Green later tweeted, “I’m inside the Capitol. My staff and I are safe. Pray for our Capitol Police and our nation. This is not who we are.”

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, said, “These actions at the US Capitol by protestors are truly despicable and unacceptable. While I am safe and sheltering in place, these protests are prohibiting us from doing our constitutional duty. I condemn them in the strongest possible terms. We are a nation of laws.”

Blackburn later tweeted: “To the protestors that have breached the Capitol building: you are disrupting the democratic process. You should be ashamed of yourself. This is violence. This is a crime. It must stop.”

Sen. Bill Hagerty

Newly elected Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tennessee, said, “I have always believed in peaceful protesting. What is happening at the U.S. Capitol right now is not peaceful, this is violence. I condemn it in the strongest terms. We are a nation of laws and this must stop.”
