CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Two Rivers Company (TRC) celebrated the completion Thursday of the 120 ft. wide mural painted on the side of the building that houses Total Fitness next to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store at 420 Madison Street.

The mural, titled #STARRYNIGHTCLARKSVILLE, was created by artist Olasubomi Aka-Bashorum who submitted the design in response to the TRC’s call for ideas for art in public places. He said the mural took a total of ten days.

Bashorum said he wanted to pick something that was about Clarksville so he used the Customs House Museum, the Montgomery County Courthouse and other scenes which he said were inspired by one of Vincent van Gogh’s famous art works “The Starry Night.”

Norman Quirion, Executive Director of the TRC, said the #STARRYNIGHTCLARKSVILLE is the first mural since the 1999 tornado and is the first in a series of Clarksville River District murals spearheaded by the TRC. It is hoped the artwork will help bring people to downtown Clarksville.

“The Two Rivers Company, this is what we’re designed to do and this is a big part of it, to get people downtown and get people excited in a positive way. That’s what we do every day and that’s what we’ll continue to do,” said Quirion.

The building is owned by C David Elliott and Phyllis Hunt.

“Phyllis and I are very happy to be chosen to show off this art and I hope you will enjoy this for years to come,” Elliott said.
