CADIZ, Ky (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The public is invited to honor the life of Curtis Cooper, a veteran of the United States Air Force who passed away on Thursday, September 19. Goodwin Funeral Home will hold a service at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West on Tuesday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m.
Cooper, age 68, served as a fuels specialist in the United States Air Force. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed carving ornate wooden walking sticks.
Goodwin Funeral Home, who is arranging the service, has had no success in locating Cooper’s family. They have since reached out to the community to help them honor and celebrate his life.
Upon learning of the situation. Coby Lewis, head football coach at Trigg County High School, approached the team and asked if any of them would like to help. The students were eager to lend a hand, and six players were chosen to serve as pall bearers for the service.
John Mark Vinson, vice-president of Goodwin Funeral Home, said they have received many calls from the community offering assistance. He believes this shows that, even in times of division, communities can come together to do great things.
“Mr. Cooper payed a great sacrifice for us and his country. It’s been humbling to see the amount of people come together,” said Vinson. “This is the spirit of America, as you may call it.”
Graveside Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on October 1 at Ky Veterans Cemetery West, 5817 Fort Campbell Boulevard, in Hopkinsville.
