CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rotary Park could soon be home to a new, free community garden thanks to a $12,900 community challenge grant from AARP.
According to county spokesperson Michelle Newell, the garden will feature one large plot with a variety of crops as well as 10 raised beds. The space will be overseen by park programming staff and maintained through a volunteer program.
“Anyone who wants to volunteer to help tend the garden will be eligible to receive the harvest,” Newell said.
In order to create the community garden, the County Commission must first accept the donation from AARP. They will vote on a resolution to accept the funds on Monday at their July session.
Volunteer forms are expected to be posted this week through the Montgomery County Parks Department. The county hopes to have the first seeds planted by the end of September.
