Contributed commentary by Montgomery Commissioner Jorge Padro of District 9:
The recent flooding of 220 homes recently is a consequence of several factors. First, the uncontrolled construction of homes without taking into consideration environmental factors. The storm drainage problems as a result of this over construction were never part of that equation. Profit took precedence over common sense. The Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission, which is made up of developers, had only one focus in mind: build, build, build and grow their investment.
The city should turn to the Army Corps of Engineers for guidance in solving the current problems and how to prevent a recurrence. In a nutshell, buyers of these homes were handed faulty goods. It’s due time that Clarksville Gas & Water should institute a culvert system for future construction.
God forbid what will happen when construction begins at the Marcelina Rossview Road development.
