CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Our community showed its generosity on Saturday with 26,000 pounds of food collected in the Combat Hunger food drive.
Manna Café Ministries and 5 Star Digital Media Group partnered with groceries across town to set up outside and invite patrons to donate food or cash. Volunteers handed shoppers a list of items needed on their way into the store; donors simply dropped goods off on their way out.
“This is our 12th year,” explained Manna Café volunteer Rachael Hickman. “It’s one of the first projects that Manna Café Ministries started with way back when. So every year, we try to take up as many grocery store fronts as we can, and the goal is to raise money and collect common food drive items that can be easily used by not only our homeless community, but also people who need food box assistance.
“We take it all back to our warehouse at the end of the day and we sort it all out. That will last us a good few months for food box distribution and such,” Hickman said.
This year they collected more than 26,000 pounds of food and more than $7,000 in monetary donations.
