CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville welcomed Austin Peay Head Baseball Coach Travis Janssen as guest speaker at their Tuesday meeting. Janssen is starting his second year as head coach at APSU.
Janssen talked about his first year at the helm of the Governors ball club and said he was proud of the team who ended last season with 34 wins which was second in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), which he added was an improvement from the year before.
The coach said the players should be back at school the weekend of January 13-15 and they’ll start practicing for opening day which is February 17. He shared what he called a positive note for the team in that all of their three starting pitchers are returning for the new season.
Janssen also talked about upgrades coming to Raymond C. Hand Park. The field is getting a new scoreboard which is going to be a video board. That will make APSU the only baseball team in the OVC with a video board and one of only four university schools in Tennessee with video board capability.
Work has been going on and is expected to be finished in the near future on the new dugouts at the field. Janssen also talked about the upcoming season and the teams the Governors will be playing which will include road trips taking on Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame.
