CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) Fifty-eight educators in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System were honored and celebrated Thursday night at a newly designed event, Red Carpet Teacher of the Year, sponsored by James Corlew Chevrolet of Clarksville.

One of those teachers, Megan Koewler from Norman Smith Elementary School, was chosen as Teacher of the Year for Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools. Along with the honor, Koewler was presented with a new car, a Chevrolet Spark donated by James Corlew Chevrolet. Koewler was very excited with the car because her current vehicle has over 200,000 miles on it and the check engine light had recently come on.

Koewler was one of three District Teachers of the Year announced on January 24 as finalists for the honor which included Cresta McGowan from Middle College at APSU and Whitney Joyner from Northeast Middle School.

The three finalists were each give a small box. One of the boxes held the key to the Chevrolet Spark and the other two contained diamond necklaces donated by Elliott’s Jewelers. When asked to open their boxes Koewler found out she was CMCSS Teacher of the Year and had a new car.

The three finalists represented three grade-level categories set by the Tennessee Department of Education, with one educator from each category selected to represent the school system at the next level of competition as a District Teacher of the Year.

“Our educators and all of the Clarksville Montgomery School System employees are the backbone and givers of our community. The James Corlew Chevrolet Team is honored to give back by sponsoring this special event,” said James Corlew, executive manager of James Corlew Chevrolet.

Director of Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools, Millard House II was the emcee of the Red Carpet event. Abby Bibkley, Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation assisted House with the awards.
