CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – CMCSS recognized several high-achieving students from across the district on Tuesday night for their academic, artistic, and extracurricular achievements with the prestigious Point of Pride award.
Among the recipients are the valedictorian and salutatorian for the graduating class of each high school in the district, who made the highest and second-highest rank in their class, respectively. These students demonstrated great strengths by not only excelling in their studies, but also by taking more rigorous Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, and honors-level courses.

Khloe Chavez, Justice Nelson, Sandra Lee, and Kayla Gore of Rossview High School’s Academy of Media Arts and Technology also received Point of Pride awards for their achievements in the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition.
Chavez and Nelson received an honorable mention for their works while Lee received Silver Key recognition and Gore received Gold Key recognition. Gore’s work is also eligible for further national recognition this coming spring.

Also from Rossview High School, wrestling coach Jeff “Tex” Price was recognized for receiving TSSAA’s AF Bridges Award for 2018-19 Athletic District 5 Male Coach of the Year. The board also recognized some of Rossview’s many other wrestling achievements that have taken place throughout the year for both the boys and girls teams.

The Northwest High Girls’ Wrestling team is the state runner up, including Brooke Taylor, Katelynn Hernandez, Roseanna Vaughn, Haven Travis, Hailey Atwater, Hailey Lehman, Juanita Jimenez, Jocelyn Mattingly, Mia Gajewski, Brette Spink, Taylor Rickley, Lily Chantler, Shayra Calderon, Miya Chambers, Diamond Conner, Elisabeth Hall, and Autumn Myers. Brette Spink and Taylor Rickley were recognized for receiving 3rd Place in Girls 150 and 160, respectively. The team is coached by Chris Bedell, Blake Spink, and Bill Fleckenstein.

Vivian Hurn was also recognized for her selection as a State of Tennessee Distinguished Finalist for the Prudential Spirit of Community award, for which only six were selected. She organized a blood drive at Montgomery Central High School that collected nearly 80 units of blood from over 100 donors, coordinating with the red cross and organizing a group of volunteers to create a successful event.
Several Kenwood Robotics teams from the STEM Academy at Kenwood High School have traveled to California and England to compete against other VEX Robotics teams in national and international competitions. The students are led by technology and engineering teacher A.J. Wolfe and team sponsor LTC Brady Gallagher (SAI).

98706A has won the Design Award and has been invited to both the TN VEX State Competition as well as the US National Robotics Championship, while 98706S has won the Judges Award this season. Both competed at the Google Signature VEX Competition in Palo Alto, California in February.
98706E has won multiple Judges Awards and has also been invited to the TN VEX State Competition due to high scoring performance in Robotic Skills competitions. 98706Z has won the KHS Tournament Champion Award, going undefeated in match play. They have been invited to both the TN VEX State Competition as well as the US National Robotics Championship.
Additionally, 98706Z competed at the University of Hertfordshire Signature VEX Competition in London, England on Feb. 15-16. The Army JROTC Team at Kenwood has been featured on the national JROTC webpage.

Finally, the Richview Girls Basketball team was honored with a Points of Pride award for finishing 3rd in State, winning the titles of Section 3 AAA Champions and Area 13 AAA Champions.
