CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Are you looking for, or have you been thinking about a part-time job? You may want to consider becoming a school bus driver for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS).

Anthony Johnson, Director of Community Relations with the school system said officials are adamant about having the best drivers possible.

Qualified drivers must be 25 years of age or older with a good driving record, have a clean background, pass a drug test, and be dependable.

Drivers must also hold or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)-Class B License. If you don’t have your CDL, training is provided by CMCSS at no cost to drivers.

The school system lists many benefits for bus drivers, including health benefits, fair wages, summers off, and no work on weekends, nights or holidays. Extra work is available if it is wanted, and split shifts means a lot of freedom in the middle of the day.

Along with benefits, Johnson talked about salaries for drivers. “I do know that the pay is competitive. We’re able to even have folks from surrounding districts or other states who will come here to drive because we are able to offer competitive pay and benefits,” said Johnson.

“Being a bus driver in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is more than just being a bus driver. You are a part of that student’s day, you are part of that student’s education,” Johnson said.
