CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clayton Rudder has announced he is running for election to the Montgomery County Commission District 6 seat, which he was appointed to in January.
Rudder is a native of Knoxville, and, after attending Hiwassee College and East Tennessee State University, earning a degree in Human Services, he joined the U.S. Army as a combat medic. He came to Montgomery County as part of the 101st Airborne Division in October 1991. Rudder later went into business for over 15 years, then went to work for the county, where he has worked for the last 15 years, first with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, and then with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. He is a supervisor over Circuit Criminal and Civil Court. Up until his appointment to the County Commission, he served as sergeant-at-arms for the commission chambers.
As county commissioner, Rudder serves on the Agriculture Extension Committee, Legislative Liaison Committee, Fire Safety Committee, Parks Committee and the School Liaison Committee.
“With the explosion of rapid growth, we have seen as a community, I want to honor in every way that I can the overwhelming voices of District 6 asking to keep it rural and protect the last area of our county from irresponsible growth,” Rudder said. “Agriculture, locally owned business, and the schools across the river are our backbone and make us who we are as a community, that we live and succeed together as a community, and it must not be partisan; everyone in District 6 deserves my all in helping them.”
Rudder’s wife Melissa is a lifelong educator with CMCSS. They live in Palmyra and have four adult children. Among his community work, he is a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Palmyra, The Rakkasan Association, Masonic Lodge #89 and the Republican Party of Montgomery County.
