CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Former Northeast boy’s basketball standout Alex Poythress will continue his professional career overseas after signing a one-year contract with the Russian basketball club Zenit St. Petersburg.

The Kentucky alum played for Galatasaray Doga Sigorta Instanbul this past season where he averaged 13.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in seven 7DAYS EuroCup games.

Poythress’s NBA career spanned 52 games and included stops with the Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 2018-19, Poythress put together an impressive 18-game stretch in the NBA’s G-League, averaging 23.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for the Erie BayHawks.

Poythress will now look to make a splash this upcoming season while playing in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
