CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council announced in a news release today that Clarksville has been named the hottest ZIP code in the country and a recurring homebuyer favorite by Opendoor.
The digital real estate company ranked Clarksville’s ZIP code 37042 at the top of the list for housing affordability and quality of life in 2022. The company described Clarksville as a thriving, close-knit local community, close to the action in Nashville.
Why Clarksville?
Chelsea Goyer, National Head of Brokerage at Opendoor, said Clarksville is ranked at the top for multiple reasons.
“As the Nashville market continues to have strong job growth, its surrounding areas have become the most desirable in the country for home buyers,” Goyer said. “For the second year, Clarksville is ranked No. 1 for its housing affordability, low taxes, high quality of life and close proximity to Nashville’s entertainment, dining and nightlife.”
At an Industrial Development Board meeting on Wednesday, Buck Dellinger, CEO of the Clarksville-Montgomery County EDC, described the announcement as another indicator that supports the economic data when it comes to talent attraction and retention. He noted that Clarksville is just behind three major cities: Phoenix, Dallas and Austin.
“Affordability and a strong school system are key drivers for the housing market, especially when choosing where to raise a family; Clarksville ranks high in both and has a great quality of life that draws people to the community. With growth anticipated to continue, we are actively collaborating with the Regional Planning Commission and local government to plan for the future and ensure the area can meet the growing demand for attainable housing,” Dellinger said in the release.
What makes Clarksville No. 1?
County Mayor Wes Golden said the announcement should come as no surprise to those who are involved in the community.
“When interacting with leaders from other communities, we constantly get asked the same question: ‘What’s the secret to your growth and success in Montgomery County?’ I always give the same answer: It is the people of Montgomery County that make it a special place to live, work and serve,” he said.
“The combination of good people, top-notch schools for K-12 and beyond, and the beauty of the area are all qualities people seek when looking for a place to call home. If you are involved in our community, this should not be a surprise.”
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts also commented on the ranking.
“The location of 37042 in our community makes it a very attractive area to live. It is near Fort Campbell, good schools, parks and recreation opportunities, and the road, sidewalk and utility infrastructure are all well positioned to keep up with growth,” he said.
