CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville woman captured a world championship title at the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship on October 13 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Julia Daggett, 60, snagged the title in the female 60-64 age group.
Approximately 700 women were registered to compete in the world’s most iconic endurance event.
Daggett completed the 140.6-mile endurance event in 11:41:44 (swim: 01:21:10; bike: 05:52:33; run: 04:19:50), beating out the top athletes in her age group in an event that featured competitors from 82 countries, regions and territories on six continents, including 46 U.S. states.
On the 40th anniversary of the iconic triathlon, the IRONMAN World Championship saw athletes embark on a 2.4-mile (3.9-km) mass swim in Kailua Bay, followed by a 112-mile (180.2 km) bike ride along the Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, capped off with a 26.2-mile (42.1 km) run culminating at the historic Ali`i Drive finish line.
