CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville woman recently became the victim of a Facebook hacking scheme.

According to Clarksville police, the victim believed she had been selected as a recipient of a department of health grant in the amount of $80,000. She received a Facebook message from a friend who told her to purchase Apple gift cards to pay the tax on the grant in order to receive it.

The victim purchased $1,700 in gift cards and sent the images to the individual whose name was provided. The victim later found out her friend’s Facebook account had been hacked.

The Clarksville Police Department wants to remind the public not to send money or gift cards to an unknown party.
