SAVANNAH, Ga. – A Clarksville woman was killed in a crash on Wilmington Island in Savannah, Georgia early Thursday morning.

According to the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, 40-year-old Melanie Riley was found in the rear passenger seat of a 1989 Ford Crown Victoria after it crashed into two palm trees around 3:28 a.m.

Travis Israel, 40, of Wilmington Island, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where he was released.

Investigators believe the accident occurred when Kevin Wallace, 25, of Savannah, was driving around a curve at a high rate of speed and struck two trees. He and his third passenger, Charles Riley, 42, of Savannah, each left the scene before police arrived.

The crash is under investigation.
