CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Clarksville Wildcats beat the Rossview Hawks 15-13 in week one of the 2017 football season. The rivalry between these two schools has always made this match up  the “Game of the Year.”  The stands at Clarksville High’s Hilda J Richardson field were packed with thousands of fans Friday night to watch the “2017 Battle for the Warfield Shield”.

The first half was filled with penalties. It was battle of field goal kickers Rossview’s Zaden Webber and Clarksville High’s Caden Patterson leaving the score at 6-3 going into halftime.

Clarksville started strong in the second half. #3 Josh Watch had a big run to move the ball down the field and quarterback #4 Ford Cooper scored on a run to take the lead 9-6.

Rossview drove down the field and #2 Fred Orr answered back with a touchdown of his own to take back the lead 13-9.

Early in the 4th quarter CHS threw an interception and turned the ball over. Clarksville’s defense shut down Rossview causing them to punt the ball. CHS started inside the 10 yard line. The Wildcats drove the ball down the field. Ford Cooper threw a 24 yard pass to Josh Watch to regain the lead 15-13.

Rossview was driving the ball the field and CHS’s #25 Jaden Ramos caught an interception to seal the win.

Josh Watch had a big night on both sides of the ball.

Warfield Shield is back at Clarksville High.

Rossview travels to Kentucky next week to play Christian County and Clarksville High travels to Springfield to play the Yellow Jackets.
