CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Police Department wants the public to watch out for a scam that cost a Clarksville couple $75,000.

The victim told police she played a ‘Facebook lottery’ and was notified immediately that she won 601,000 Euros, but needed to pay taxes and transaction fees in order to collect her supposed winnings.

The victim sent several cash transfers and mailed funds to multiple people in different states, ranging between $300-$20,000. A total of $75,000 was withdrawn from the couple’s bank account.

The victim received a link from a Facebook friend who had supposedly also won money through the lottery. However, when the victim reached out to someone associated with the link, she was told to correspond only through emails.

Police warn the public to watch out for these kinds of scams. Never send money to someone you do not know.
