CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)-The light rain Tuesday morning didn’t dampen the spirits of the dozens of Urban Ministries volunteers who were distributing food bags at a drive-thru site in the parking lot of Madison Street United Methodist Church.
The drive-thru was set up so those seeking help would not have to leave their vehicles to receive food.
“What we are doing is trying to feed our low income families,” said Deborah Ashcraft, Grace Assistance Program Director for Urban Ministries. “We have prepared food bags with standard staples such as soup, beans, and pasta.”
Ashcraft added that a number of partner agencies such as Loaves & Fishes, YAIPaks, and the Montgomery County Veterans Coalition have teamed up with Urban Ministries to try and get through the coronavirus pandemic.
A second drive-thru distribution will take place on Friday, March 20, at the same location- in the Commerce Street parking lot of the Madison Street United Methodist Church from 3-7 p.m., or while supplies last.
Those seeking assistance must provide a photo ID and proof of residency in Clarksville-Montgomery County, such as a piece of mail that shows their home address.
“We are also helping or homeless friends by giving them a food bag and a toiletry bag which has essential items to help them maintain daily health,” said Ashcraft.
