CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A portion of D Street running through the Manna Café Ministries property has been renamed Kenny York Memorial Way, honoring the late founder whose work brought attention to Clarksville’s homeless population and provided meals and support for thousands of residents.
The unveiling took place Tuesday morning during the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Before Hours at Manna Café, where community members gathered for breakfast, networking and the ceremony.

Ken Poindexter, board chairman of Manna Café Ministries, spoke about the meaning of the sign. “A street sign usually tells us where we are. This one also tells us who we are called to be,” Poindexter said.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts explained the impact of York’s work and the importance of Manna Café in the community. “Most of us in this room have either never faced extreme hunger, or you’ve forgotten what that means. And as you leave today, look around. We have friends, neighbors, and people that need Manna Café,” Pitts said. He added, “Imagine this community without Manna Café. I can’t.”
Pitts also stated how the idea to dedicate a street to York began more than a year ago and was approved by the City Council. “Today I’m pleased to say that the City Council has approved it. So we’re official today,” he said. “We didn’t call it Lane or Road or Boulevard; we called it Way because Kenny liked to get his way, and Kenny got his way.”
Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden issued a proclamation declaring October 2025 Combat Hunger Month. He praised Manna Café’s work and encouraged ongoing community support. “Love isn’t something that’s just in the moment; it’s not a one-time thing. It’s something all the time; that we have to share,” Golden said.
Vicki York, CEO of Manna Café, announced her plan to honor Kenny York’s legacy through a 100-mile prayer walk, covering 10 miles a day for 10 days across Montgomery County. “We need a stronger monetary foundation. We’re a very strong organization, but we need Clarksville to keep on keeping on. Don’t forget about us. Get in there, help us. Let’s keep feeding our neighbors,” she said.
