CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Alzheimer’s Association held its kick-off luncheon Thursday, August 8 for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Clarksville which is set for Saturday, October 5 at Liberty Park.

Team captains met for lunch at the Riverview Inn and heard from members of the Alzheimer’s Association office in Nashville about supporting the walk which is a fundraiser for the organization.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease and the most common form of dementia. It destroys brain cells and once it starts it gets worse over time and affects all aspects of a person’s life both mentally and physically.

Andrew Jackson with the Alzheimer’s Association talked about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “It is a fundraising event there’s no registration fee but we do ask that everyone do contribute by fundraising. The funds go toward support within our local community as well as research which is most important,” said Jackson.

The Alzheimer’s Association is also sponsoring the Brain Health A-Z, a health expo, Saturday, August 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 435 Madison Street in Clarksville.
