NORFOLK (NNS) – The nine-member ensemble “Uncharted Waters,” from the U.S. Fleet Forces Band, has been repeatedly delighting crowds in Latin America throughout the spring and summer.
Uncharted Waters, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, is currently embarked aboard USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) to perform at various ceremonies, community relations projects, and medical care facilities as part of “Operation Continuing Promise 2015.”
Uncharted Waters routinely perform throughout the eastern United States and specialize in a variety of styles such as New Orleans style brass band, jazz, rock, and pop. Clarksville, Tennessee native Musician 2nd Class Patrick Reynolds is an alumnus of Northeast High School and Austin Peay State University. He says, “Sharing music breaks through all language and cultural barriers. We will be the first Americans many of these people will see in person, and our ensuring that this first encounter is a positive one through music will be an amazing experience, and it will hopefully change for the better how many people view Americans and America, in general.”
“Operation Continuing Promise” is the U.S. Navy’s biennial mission aiming to provide medical, dental, and veterinary aid to the peoples of Latin America while fostering unity and cooperation with America’s closest neighbors.
