CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville restaurant recently held a supply drive that resulted in a major donation for victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
Tropicana Restaurant (233 A Tiny Town Rd.) held a donation drive Saturday to collect emergency supplies, including food, water, baby supplies, pet food, medication, blankets, and much more.
At least 3.4 million people were affected by the disaster and are currently without power. President Trump announced early Thursday that his administration would waive the Jones Act, which places federal restrictions on foreign ships’ transportation of cargo, in order to expedite the shipping of supplies.
Earlier this week troops from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell deployed to Puerto Rico to assist with rescue efforts and the distribution of resources.
A spokesperson said the soldiers will stay on the island as long as they are needed.
An employee from Tropicana Restaurant provided images from Saturday’s collection.
