CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Regional Airport is celebrating its Ninetieth Birthday. The Airport formally opened in June of 1930 with a dedication ceremony taking place on the 18th of June that was attended by 5,000 people.

In October of 1943 the city of Clarksville paid tribute to a native son who played a part in the airport’s existence Col. John F. Outlaw. On the 18th of October 1943 the Airport was officially named Outlaw Field, a name that endures to this day.

There have been numerous changes over the past 90 years, runway projects, a new terminal building and new hangar projects to name a few.

Recently, the Airport has partnered with Austin Peay State University to house their one of a kind helicopter flight program. The program’s first 11 students took to the air June, 2020.

The Airport was also recently featured on the cover of the October issue of Airport Business, a popular international aviation magazine.

The article featured an interview with the airport’s business manager, Josh Vaughn, focusing on efforts to attract new business and encourage people to invest in Clarksville and the Clarksville Regional Airport. The article further references Clarksville’s booming economy, the strong veteran workforce and the new partnership between the Clarksville Regional Airport and Austin Peay State University.

“The Clarksville Regional Airport team is proud of the past 90 years and is proud to serve the Clarksville Community and we look forward to growing with Clarksville and Middle Tennessee over the next 90 years,” says Vaughn.
