CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Three members of the Tennessee River Chapter of the American Red Cross headquartered in Clarksville are currently deployed in Dothan, Alabama to aid in relief efforts for Hurricane Michael.

Katy Hagstrom, Executive Director of the chapter, said the volunteers are assisting with five evacuation shelters that are open to the public.

“Anybody can come, whether they are evacuating from Florida or any other place and take shelter and wait out the hurricane,” Hagstrom said.

Hagstrom said one of her duties is to act as a liaison with local elected officials to see what their needs are and relay those back to the Red Cross.

Earlier Wednesday morning Hagstrom said as the storm approached, there were tornado watches issued along with the hurricane warning.

Anyone who wishes to donate to the relief efforts can either visit redcross.org, text 90999 to make a $10 donation, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
