CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – In the last few days, a resident of the Savannah West Subdivision in Clarksville has been posting on his Facebook page about an alleged sexual predator in his neighborhood on Sept. 9.
In the post, he stated that a white male with short hair driving a gray BMW tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl. After his attempt was unsuccessful, he circled around and went after two boys.
Clarksville police have confirmed that this information is false.
THE FACTS:
Police collected the information from two 911 calls and spoke with a parent of one of the children involved in the incidents on Sept. 9 and determined the following is what occurred:
On Sept. 9, a 12-year-old girl walking in the Savannah West neighborhood was approached by the driver of the BMW, who appeared to be a licensed juvenile (possibly 17-year-old according to the information given to the dispatcher). The driver told the girl to get in the car, and he would “take her where she needs to go.”
She told him “no” several times and then to “get out of here” before running to a friend’s house.
According to the child’s parent, the driver did not attempt to force the girl into the car and did not get out of his car. He did circle around and approached other juveniles walking in the neighborhood. The juveniles walking refused a ride from the driver and left the area.
There were no accusations of the driver forcing the juveniles into the car and nothing reported about the driver leaving his car.
Police were called out to both incidents, which were deemed “suspicious activity” calls. No crime occurred in either incident.
“We do take suspicious activity seriously, and District 3 is looking into both incidents,” said Public Information Officer Natalie Hall. “The District 3 Commander has set up extra patrol in the area to look out for the suspicious vehicle and driver.”
Hall said there is no evidence that the driver of the BMW is a sexual predator and, according to the information provided, he made no attempt to force the children into the car. Therefore, there is no evidence of an abduction.
“If the public is ever in danger of these crimes, the CPD will let you know,” Hall said.
No further information was released.
