CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Police officers surrounded retired police service dog, Solo, and his handler, Sergeant Joey Scruggs as Solo peacefully passed today.
Solo, who was battling medical issues, was a 10-year-old German Shepherd who was dual-trained for patrol activities and narcotics detection.
Solo served the City of Clarksville and the Clarksville Police Department for approximately eight years and was retired in May 2019, after experiencing debilitating medical problems.
Scruggs was Solo’s only partner and handler during his time at CPD. He patrolled daily and was deployed to more than 400 calls to locate narcotics, search buildings, track suspects, and perform public demonstrations highlighting K-9’s intrinsic value to a law enforcement agency.
Solo remained with Sergeant Scruggs and his family until his death.
