UPDATE:
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Emergency Operations Center closed at 3 p.m. Thursday as main road conditions improved somewhat; but Lieutenant Steve Warren with the Clarksville Police Department said many secondary streets are still treacherous.
Motorists will still have to be careful on side roads and secondary streets. The Clarksville Street Department is getting to those streets as they can after the main streets and roads have been taken care of.
TDOT and Clarksville Street Department workers labored diligently Thursday to get at least one passable lane open on major roadways.
There were no reported power outages. Requests for motorist assistance came in throughout Thursday, but at a reduced rate.
Many people made requests throughout the day for welfare checks on friends and relatives within the city, especially for the elderly and handicapped, and some were officer responses to 911 hangup calls.
On Thursday, CPD Sergeant Joe Difiore said, “Vehicle traffic has been pretty light, but I wish it was lighter. Thankfully, most people were smart enough to stay home today.”
Unfortunately, a few drivers not only didn’t stay home, but decided to travel at unsafe speeds and even intentionally slide their vehicles in circles. CPD Officers ticketed dangerous and irresponsible motorists for reckless driving whenever they were observed.
