CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – In response to a recent increase in scams and fraudulent calls within the community, the Clarksville Police Department’s Community Relations Unit has begun offering free seminars to educate the public and reduce the number of citizens that fall prey to scams.
Scams can take many forms, including phone calls, emails, Facebook messages and other electronic communications. One recent strategy involves the victim’s computer suddenly shutting down, only for the owner to receive a call from a ‘representative’ who promises to fix the computer in exchange for an Ebay gift card or similar form of untraceable payment.
The seminars offered by Clarksville Police Department cover this and many other types of scams. The Community Relations Unit has prepared a presentation which can be tailored to fit the needs of different businesses and groups.
After scheduling an appointment. one of the Unit’s certified instructors will join your group for a presentation, followed by a Q&A session. The seminar typically takes between 45 minutes and an hour, and focuses on common scams that pertain most to the group in question.
The program is completely free to local businesses, groups, organizations and individuals. In order to schedule one of these seminars contact Sgt. Jones at 931-648-0656 ext 5276, email Officer Howard at James.Howard@cityofclarksville.com or Officer Carroll at Roger.Carroll@cityofclarksville.com.
