CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Police Department is looking for local communities interested in starting or improving their neighborhood crime watch programs.

Neighborhood watch programs are a way to make communities safer by working together in conjunction with local law enforcement to reduce crime and improve quality of life. Citizens learn to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods through observation and awareness.

Neighborhood watch programs utilize strategies that range from simply promoting social interaction to “watching out for each other.” The theory behind neighborhood watch is fairly simplistic, the personal investment of community members in their own neighborhood watch programs can decrease opportunities for criminals to commit crimes. The neighborhood watch program draws upon the compassion of average citizens, asking them to lend their neighbors a hand.
