CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man who was late for work fabricated a story about a robbery to cover for it, according to Clarksville police.

On October 11 around 8:40 a.m., 21-year-old Damien Gonzales walked into a local police precinct and told officers that he was robbed outside his home around 6:30 a.m. that same day.

He told police he started his car to warm the engine and was approached by a man who demanded his car. Gonzalez told officers that when he refused, he was reportedly cut by a blade on the side of his abdomen. He said he punched the man in retaliation, causing him to flee the scene.

During an interview by Detective Bradley the story revealed some inconsistencies. When pressed for details, officers determined Gonzalez made the story up to cover for being late for work.

Gonzales was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with false report. His bond was set at $1,000.
