NASHVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville Police detective was hit by a Jeep as a suspect fled from him in Nashville today. He had minor injuries.

Clarksville detectives were searching for a missing 17-year-old at 189 Wallace Road when they saw her get in an orange Jeep Renegade with 20-year-old Skyler E. Whitefield-Brewner, according to a news release from Metro Nashville Police.

Whitefield-Brewner was given several commands to turn his car off and exit the vehicle before he backed up at a high rate of speed, hitting the detective with the Jeep. The detective was knocked to the ground, MNPD said.

The two were later arrested by MNPD East Precinct officers near Hutson Avenue. Whitefield-Brewner was charged with aggravated assault of a first responder, evading arrest and two misdemeanor probation violations. The 17-year-old girl was charged with being a runaway juvenile.

The Clarksville officer, Detective Jason Kurtich, had minor injuries and declined to be transported to the hospital. He was checked out by Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services when he returned to Clarksville, according to CPD spokesman Scott Beaubien.
