CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Police Department is asking the public to fill out a survey regarding body cameras.

CPD is in the process of preparing a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice to receive funds for body-worn cameras.

By answering the survey below, you can indicate whether or not you support the use of these cameras by CPD.

BODY CAMERA SURVEY

“We think these cameras can be a valuable addition to the way we equip our police officers,” Mayor Kim McMillan said. “We want to do all we can to obtain this important public safety grant.”

The grant would cover a term of two years and provide a 50/50 match to purchase a number of the cameras, data storage and related equipment. City officers currently do not use body-worn cameras.

“We applied for a similar grant in 2015 and didn’t receive any funding,” Chief Ansley said. “The Department of Justice encouraged the City to improve its application, so we are reaching out to the public to determine the level of community support for a body-worn camera program.”

The City Council approved a resolution in August 2016 supporting the grant application and committing to sustain the long-term program after initial grant funding expires.
