CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Heavy rain fell almost continuously since late Wednesday, knocking out power to hundreds and prompting flash flood warnings.
Montgomery County EMS, Clarksville Police and Clarksville Fire Rescue were called to help motorists from vehicles stuck in high water.
There was a dramatic rescue from a home on Central Ave that involved a mother and her young child. CPD Officers Holden Hudgin and Matthew Drudy were able to get in the home and get the mother and her child out safely. Police report the water in the home was almost to their knees in height and still rising.
Several streets in Downtown Clarksville were closed overnight.
According to outage reports by CDE and CEMC more than 1,000 Clarksville-area homes were without electricity Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service received reports of swift water rescues and mobile homes swept away in Big Rock, about 25 miles southwest of Clarksville.
A state of emergency has been declared in Tennessee because of the floodwaters. More rain is expected Thursday.
