CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After careful consideration and evaluation of various different factors, including the aging condition of the equipment, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has decided to close Clarksville BCycle stations located throughout the city effective March 31 of this year.
The decision comes eight years after the BCycle stations were first introduced as a way to provide the Clarksville community with a sustainable and convenient bike-sharing program. However, Clarksville Parks and Recreation analyzed the program and came to the conclusion the current level of ridership is no longer sustainable for continued operation of the stations, according to a department news release.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation also said replacement parts for the bicycles and station kiosks are no longer being manufactured as the industry continues to shift toward e-bikes.
In the news release, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department thanked the community for their support of the program, as well as their participation over the years and said, “We remain committed to exploring new ways to serve and contribute to the community in the future.”
