CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – With the COVID-19 pandemic, facilities have closed and there is a great need for a place to shower for homeless in the community.
A Shower Up mobile vehicle offered showers for the homeless in the Habitat for Humanity and Operation Stand Down Tennessee parking lot at 400 Madison St.
The Shower Up for those in need helped over 60 homeless on Friday with not only a shower but food, clothing and hygiene items.
Valerie Guzman, Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region said the event is a special resource for the community.
“We’re super excited, to be able to meet their needs with a shower, make sure they get the food they need, and personal hygiene items,” Guzman said. “That’s really what our focus was Friday to give them some dignity in a time when it’s really been hard.”
Organizations participating in the Shower Up include Operation Stand Down Tennessee, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region, Montgomery County Veterans Coalition, YaiPaks, and Urban Ministries.
