CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – During Trump’s recent visit to the Air Force Academy’s graduation on May 30 the president made it a point to shake the hand of nearly 1,000 Air Force graduates, including one local Clarksvillian.

Glen Appleton III, had dreams of applying for the Air Force Academy shortly after high school. While working at Chick-fil-A he decided to enlist in the military as a mechanic. Roughly five years later he has now completed the prestigious Air Force Academy as a Second Lieutenant.

Being accepted into the Air Force Academy was a great accomplishment as Appleton says only 10 percent of applicants actually make it through the selection process.

Upon meeting Trump, Appleton said it was surreal. “I just told him I’m his biggest fan,” said Appleton. “He responded, ‘I really appreciate it.'”

He will now continue on in his Air Force career and hopes to fly carrier style cargo planes.

During the speech the President gave at the graduation he said, “To dominate the future, America must rule the skies. And that is what your time at this great Academy has been all about,” he said. “”You truly make America proud.”

The Cadets reportedly honored President Trump with a gift, each contributing funds to give him a painting by Colorado Springs aviation artist Rick Broome.

Trump offered the parents a sincere thank you during his graduation announcement as well.

“Thank you for raising rock-ribbed American patriots,” he said.
