CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville National 10-12U baseball team faced Goodlettsville in the state title game in a rematch on Thursday, July 18. While Clarksville’s defense started out hot, Goodlettsville’s big third inning was too much for Clarksville National to overcome, and Goodlettsville won 5-0. The Clarksville National team finishes as state runner ups.

Early on, left-handed pitcher John Kent was dealing, not allowing a runner on base his first two innings. However, in the third, a line drive down the third base line scored three runners, and Goodlettsville scratched across two more in the third for the first lead of the night. The score remained the same for the rest of the game, despite a late Clarksville National rally.

“You have to tip your cap to Goodlettsville,” said Clarksville National head coach Matt Sundstrom. “They’ve got a tremendous pitching staff, and probably have a few future college guys on the mound. They’ve got a chance to go a long way.”

Clarksville National has nothing to hang their heads about as they finish as the second-best team in the state of Tennessee. Players will now focus on tryouts for their school teams.

“It’s been an absolute blessing and a privilege to coach this team,” Sundstrom said. “They’ve all bought in and worked extremely hard. They play for each other, they’re good teammates, and that’s going to take them a long way. I’m going to miss it.”
