CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville has been named one of the Top 10 cities where millennials are moving, according to a recent survey. The national survey reviewed cities across the nation. Clarksville was the only city to make the Top 10.
Out of the ten leading cities, only three carried over from 2018, suggesting new determining factors for millennial migration. According to the survey site SmartAsset, new trends in employment or a shift in what millennials are looking for in a home could be part of this change.
The same does not hold true for the states to which millennials are moving. Eight of the 10 states on the 2019 list also made it into the 2018 list. Tennessee is a new addition for 2019. Nearly all cities named are in either the South or West.
Clarksville ranked ninth on the national list. The net increase in millennial population for the community was 3,330. Of the 9,740 millennials who moved into Clarksville in 2017, a majority of them, 7,773 people, came from outside of Tennessee.
Tennessee has also ranked number nine as the state where rich millennials are moving.
The net migration is calculated based on the number of millennials moving out of and the number of millennials moving into the community.
Three contributing factors for this influx in the young workforce are Fort Campbell, Austin Peay State University, and the growing industrial sector.
Initiatives by the Economic Development Council, including the Industrial Development Board, Chamber of Commerce, and Visit Clarksville, continue to market Clarksville-Montgomery County as a leading choice for young Americans to live, work, and raise a family.
Couple that with the city’s central location nationally, as well as the close proximity to Nashville, and Clarksville becomes a leading force for emerging leaders and the millennial market.
