CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville branch of the NAACP will host a political forum/town hall meeting for candidates vying for the District 22 State Senate seat in Tennessee.
Candidates for the special primary set for March 7 and the general election set for April 23 will discuss their platforms and answer questions from the public.
The forum will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Lettie P. Kendall Outreach Center (207 Oak Street) at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The NAACP said candidates attending are Betty Burchett, Jeff Burkhart, Bill Powers, Juanita Charles, Doyle Clark, and David Cutting.
Seven candidates have qualified for the 2019 Special Called Primary and Election. Candidates include Republicans Betty Burchett, Jeff Burkhart, Jason Knight, Bill Powers and Democrat Juanita Charles whose names will appear on the March 7 Primary ballot, with Independent candidates Doyle Clark and David Cutting only appearing on the April 23 General Election ballot.
The District 22 State Senate seat represents constituents in Montgomery, Houston and Stewart Counties.
Early voting has already begun in Montgomery County and will continue through March 2.
