CLARKSVILLE, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County Public will host a public art exhibit titled “The Tobacco Hands/ The Habits of Mutuality” by artists Cynthia Marsh and Marnie Powers-Torrey.
“The Tobacco Hands” is a 3-dimensional printed quilt that tells the stories of tobacco growing families living in the Black Patch region of northern Tennessee and southern Kentucky.
Since the early 1800s, several thousand acres of land at the base of the Cumberland Plateau known as the Black Patch have produced the coveted dark-fired, sweet tobacco used primarily for snuff.
Presentation and unveiling will take place in the atrium of the Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library on Friday, May 20, from 4:30-6 p.m. Sweet tea and fresh pie will follow.
“The Tobacco Hands/ The Habits of Mutuality” will remain on display in the lobby of the Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library through August 2022.
