CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- (Clarksvillenow.com) Over 300 veterans, veteran supporters, family members and community leaders filled the William O. Beach Civic Hall at Veterans Plaza Monday, May 30 for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Memorial Day Ceremony. The ceremony honored those military service members who answered the call of duty and paid the ultimate price.

Guest speaker for the ceremony was retired Lt. Colonel Norman “Greg” Lane. Lane served 24 years, 12 of those years in a variety of command and staff positions around the world along with an additional 12 years in the Army Reserves. Lane currently serves as a cadet success coordinator with the Army ROTC at Austin Peay State University.

“I want to welcome you and thank you for being here today to honor all those who gave up all of their tomorrows, for our today. We’re her to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation all through the years of our wonderful country’s history,” said Lane.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMilland and Lane presented a wreath at the ceremony to honor the memory of the fallen service men and women. A number of other wreaths were also presented by other local veterans service organizations.

Organizations represented were, Women Veterans of America- Chapter 20, Military Order of the Purple Heart Screaming Eagle Chapter 457, Disabled American Veterans Hardy Shelby Chapter 45, Marine Corp League Detachment 603, Triple Nickle 555th Parachute Infantry Association, American Legion Post 433, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 396, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4895 & Auxiliary, Military Officers Association of America Fort Campbell Chapter

The event is hosted each year by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization (VSO).
