CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Local mixed martial artist Jacob “The Killer” Killburn will get an opportunity to break through in the UFC when he travels to Las Vegas August 7 to compete in the Dana White Contender series.
“This is by far the biggest opportunity I’ve ever had in my life. I finally get to show my skills on the big stage in front of the most important man, the UFC President,” Killburn said.
Killburn is a teacher at Harris Holt Martial Arts Academy in Clarksville, TN where he also trains. With a professional record of 6-1, he will step into the octagon to face Bobby Moffet, a wrestler-style fighter who has a record of 12-3.
“He’s had some impressive wins, but he’s nothing that I haven’t dealt with before. Our plan is to go out and push the pace, be aggressive and trust that our skills and preparation will take over. I’m just going to go out there and take it to him,” Killburn said of Moffet.
A win for Killburn would put himself and Clarksville on the map, becoming the first UFC fighter to live and train in Tennessee. With black belts in Judo and Karate and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Killburn has a skill-set that should serve him well in his ascent to the UFC.
His trainers are Lance Boyd, Ricky Ward, Jeff Mackens, and Johnathan Ivey.
“I’d like to give a special shout out to First Round Management for setting up this opportunity,” Killburn said. “I’d like to give all glory to God for keeping me healthy and giving me the boldness to chase my dreams.”
