NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Metro police are investigating the death of a Clarksville man who was shot prior to crashing into a utility pole near downtown Nashville Friday night.

According to WKRN News 2, the crash happened around 11 p.m. at the corner of 17th Avenue North and Hayes Street.

Witnesses told Metro police they heard a loud “pop” as a Range Rover passed by them and crashed into the pole.

Metro police reported 23-year-old Quinzell Pannell Jr., of Clarksville, was the driver of the Range Rover. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two handguns and a small amount of marijuana were found inside the vehicle, according to Metro police.

Investigators believe the gunfire came from inside the vehicle and two men, one of whom sustained minor injuries in the crash, have been interviewed.

The investigation is ongoing.
