NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Elique Camacho, 21, of Clarksville, Tennessee, was indicted this week by a federal grand jury for possessing a firearm after being convicted of a crime of domestic violence.
Police had initially responded to a domestic assault call June 24 at a home on Armistead Dr. Camacho reportedly yelled that he would fight anyone before hitting a 12-year-old girl in the head with a closed fist.
An officer said when he arrived at the home and approached on foot, Camacho attempted to run over him in a black Mitsubishi Eclipse, striking the officer in the hand as he jumped out of the way.
According to the indictment, Clarksville police officers were then involved in a vehicle pursuit of Camacho. As he was fleeing from the police, Camacho fired several rounds from his vehicle at the officers, before hiding overnight in a wooded area.
Camacho was located and arrested the following morning and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
“This is another example where someone committed an act of violence against our police officers and now, if convicted, faces up to 10 years in federal prison – without parole,” U.S. Attorney Don Cochran for the Middle District of TN said. “We continue to repeat this message – if you commit an act of violence against a law enforcement officer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office will review the facts and if appropriate, as it is in this case, we will bring federal charges.”
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Clarksville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brooke Schiferle is prosecuting the case.
