CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville man, 31-year-old Lawrence Mitchell, is facing four counts of attempted homicide in connection with a shooting incident last year in Clarksville. Mitchell was charged Friday with his bond set at $2 million.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with evading arrest on August 13, 2014 after a drive-by shooting on Treeland Drive that left four people injured after being shot with a high-powered rifle. Clarksville Police pursued two vehicles from the scene of the shooting with Mitchell in one of those vehicles.

Police say Mitchell, who was in the second vehicle, attempted to block police from stopping the first vehicle. After the shooter’s vehicle escaped, Mitchell led police on a high speed chase with speeds over 100 miles per hour to Guthrie, KY. where he abandoned the vehicle and was later arrested.

Mitchell told police he was aware of his actions the evening of the shooting and his job was to block pursuing police officers. Mitchell has a criminal history that includes aggravated assault, burglary and numerous drug offenses.
