CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly pointing an AR-15 rifle at his neighbors.
According to an arrest warrant, the witnesses/victims told police their neighbor on Keyland Dr. had been belligerent toward firefighters who had just left the area after extinguishing a fire July 25.
A short time later, two adult witnesses and a child were playing on the side of their residence when the suspect, 32-year-old David Kidwell, backed out of his driveway and began yelling at them.
Another witness holding a child walked over and told Kidwell he “needed to go” as several other witnesses walked over.
The witnesses said Kidwell made a statement about how they “were all neighbors and needed to get along” before pointing an AR-15 out of the driver’s side window at the group.
When police attempted to make contact with Kidwell, he would not open the door but spoke to them through the glass. The warrant says he told officers he has a valid carry permit and did display his weapon, but claimed it was not done in a threatening manner.
Kidwell was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault. His bond was set at $20,000.
