NASHVILLE, TN – Some hockey games are remembered for a spectacular goal, a crushing hit, or an improbable comeback. Monday night’s contest between the Clarksville Kings and Independence / Centennial at Centennial Sportsplex had all three, and then some.
In one of the wildest games in the young history of the Clarksville Kings hockey program, the teams battled to a 10–10 tie, featuring 20 goals, thunderous hits, momentum swings, and a finish that left spectators wondering what they had just witnessed.
Clarksville struck first on a goal by Naythan Richer, but Centennial answered just seven seconds later. Alex Woodworth restored the Kings’ advantage late in the opening period, giving Clarksville a 2–1 lead at the intermission.
The second period turned chaotic as Centennial scored three unanswered goals to take a 4–2 lead. Clarksville responded with two quick goals, including a power-play tally by Woodworth, to tie the game at four. Centennial answered with two more goals, carrying a 6–4 advantage into the final period.
Trailing by two, Clarksville then erupted for six third-period goals in an offensive exchange that saw both teams repeatedly answer each other’s scoring.
Woodworth scored twice in the third, bringing his game total to four goals. Richer completed his hat trick, while his brother Jorden Richer added a goal and three assists. Together, the Richer brothers combined for nine points.
With the score tied 8–8 and just 2:37 remaining, Clarksville goaltender Riley Barnes made a critical save to preserve the deadlock. Fifteen seconds later, Naythan Richer scored to put Clarksville ahead 9–8. Then, with 1:48 remaining, Jorden Richer buried a one timer from the slot following a faceoff victory, extending the Kings’ lead to 10–8. It appeared Clarksville had completed an improbable comeback. But Centennial had other plans.
With its goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, Centennial scored at 1:05 and again just eight seconds later, erasing Clarksville’s two-goal advantage and tying the game at 10.
The final horn sounded on a contest featuring 20 goals, 54 combined shots, and enough dramatic moments to fill an entire season.
